Are you ready for some football?

In the spirit of the Super Bowl, check out this video from our friends at Energy Tomorrow, a program of the American Petroleum Institute, who point out that the White House continues to let the air out of the political football known as the Keystone XL pipeline.

The clip offers a clever way of illustrating the political gamesmanship behind the ever-lengthening delays impeding this shovel-ready project.

We’re now in Year Seven of the regulatory approval process, with the Obama administration giving no indication of when or even whether it will act.

The investors putting up the money for this project deserve better, as do consumers from coast to coast – or, if you will, from Seattle to New England – who would benefit from its construction.

Technological innovations in America’s and Canada’s oil fields have afforded both countries a tremendous opportunity to enhance North American energy security.

But it’s hardly guaranteed. For it to happen, our industry needs to count on additional infrastructure as well as a clear, stable, and rational regulatory framework.

There is nothing clear, stable, or rational about going through a six-year regulatory process and still not having a decision – or even the prospects of one.

It’s time to throw the flag for “delay of game.”
